Capitol Christian Prayer and Ministry Group Update

The Summer has flown by and the Fall is now upon us so those of us at the Capitol Christian Prayer and Ministry Group have begun planning this coming year’s slate of activities for the upcoming legislative session. First, our Prayer and Ministry Group, has been praying for the upcoming session during the summer and we have an exciting and aggressive agenda for the coming year.

Our group’s Chairman, Rev. Ben B. James, Jr.; has been working tirelessly with various leaders across the State to line up speakers for the upcoming year’s meetings. The tentative plan is to kick off the Prayer and Ministry Group’s 2013 agenda by having a large Prayer Rally in the Pine Belt area before the end of 2012 in conjunction with Senator Chris McDaniel’s annual holiday event in the Jones’ County area at a local Church where we will pray for the work of the ministry and encourage local officials and Church leaders to participate with us in this important work. We are very excited that Senator McDaniel has offered to partner with the Prayer and Ministry Group to broaden the work beyond the Capitol into the various parts of our state.

Also, to kick off the Legislative portion of the Prayer and Ministry Group’s activities for the coming session, one of our advisory board members, Ms. Pat Bruce, is working with Bro. James and her pastor to host a large Prayer Rally and meal at her home Church – First United Methodist Church of Madison, Mississippi. This will be the official beginning of the prayer luncheons/dinners, which were so well-attended by many members of the State Legislature, State Courts and Statewide elected officials. Then the prayer luncheons will commence periodically throughout the balance of the legislative session with great speakers offering their personal testimonials of how their faith has animated their work and lives.

If you would like to help participate in the Capitol Christian Prayer and Ministry Group’s work, please feel free to contact Joey Fillingane at joey@fillinganelawfirm.com. We are raising funds for this ministry as we have sent out a letter with many of our statewide leaders’ signatures requesting funds earlier this summer and have received significant pledges of support. If you would like to make a financial contribution to this ministry, please send the gift to Capitol Prayer and Ministry Foundation, LLC, c/o Sara Williams, 1984 Petit Bois Street, Jackson, Mississippi 39211. Please know that all funds raised go directly to paying for the cost of the prayer luncheons during the legislative session and for any expenses associated with our speaker’s travel to come speak at those luncheons.

All of the advisory board members and our Chairman, Ben B. James, Jr., are donating their time and expenses to the cause of Christ in this ministry and will take no funds for their time and effort associated with the Prayer and Ministry Group. This is a cause we all believe strongly in because without a change in hearts and minds through Christ Jesus working in and through us, we know that the challenges we as policy-makers and citizens will never be met.
