Harper – Democrats holding up real funding measures

By: Magnolia Tribune - September 14, 2012

Dear Friend,

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a short-term funding bill today that keeps the federal government open and operating for six months.

This legislation, known as a continuing resolution, was introduced by House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers and prevents a government shutdown. Current funding levels agreed to in the bipartisan “Budget Control Act” will be used for federal programs through March 27, 2013, allowing the next Congress to produce long-term spending proposals.

To date, the Republican-led House has advanced seven appropriations measures while the Democratic-controlled Senate has failed to pass a single funding bill. As a result, Congress must approve a stop-gap plan to maintain government operations.

House lawmakers continue to govern in an efficient and effective manner to support economic stability. Overall, this bill decreases government spending, supports relief and recovery efforts for natural disasters, and maintains defense funding.

God bless,

Gregg Harper
