Businessman Jonathan Lee to run for Jackson mayor

Jonathan Lee plans to officially announce Tuesday his plans to run for Jackson mayor. Lee, joining sitting council members Chokwe Lumumba of Ward 2 and Frank Bluntson of Ward 4, would be the latest person to enter the race.

Current Jackson Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr. has not officially stated his intentions to seek re-election.

The following is a campaign announcement from Lee:

On Tuesday, July 31st at 11am, Jonathan Lee will announce his candidacy for Mayor of Jackson, Mississippi at 1320 Perkins Street in Jackson. This house in Georgetown was his grandmother’s home, and the home in which his mother was reared.

“Jackson, the city we all call home, is the capital city and should be leading the charge in job growth, innovation, and education,” Lee said. “The fact of the matter is that we have a long way to go, and just getting the train on track is not good enough for the people of Jackson.”
