Sheriff’s hire: Why the stonewalling?

Through a public records request, The Clarion-Ledger was able to confirm that former Jackson Police Department officer Marcus Wright has been hired by the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department and that he is a sergeant in charge of the sheriff’s internal affairs department.

Wright was one of former Mayor Frank Melton’s body guards and played a role in the warrantless raid on an alleged crackhouse in that left the structure damaged.

Wright eventually pleaded guilty to a federal misdemeanor conspiracy charge in 2009, paid a fine and was prohibited from working in law enforcement for a year.
