Former DeSoto Democratic leader Mike Smith in race for Flowers’ vacancy
A second candidate, Mike Smith, has announced plans to run for the state Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Merle Flowers, R-Olive Branch.
Smith, former vice chairman of the DeSoto County Democratic Party, said Tuesday he will be a candidate for the post during a special election that has yet to be set.
Republican Pat Nelson, a first-term state representative from Southaven, announced last week that he also will run.
