Doctor says he’s pawn in Mississippi’s abortion battle
Dr. Carl Reddix was appointed to serve on the Mississippi State Board of Health by former Gov. Haley Barbour, but just before his confirmation, the lieutenant governor pulled his nomination.
Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves’ reason was that the Harvard-educated doctor serves as the emergency on-call physician for the state’s only abortion clinic.
“This whole situation is embarrassing for me as a Mississippian,” Reddix said.
Reddix is a Biloxi-born, Jackson-based ob-gyn. He attended medical school at Tufts University and served his residency at Johns Hopkins. He also has a degree in public health policy from Harvard.
