Public Safety budget fails to upgrade trooper vehicle
Mississippi state troopers will have to wait at least another year before they get a wave of new patrol cars under legislation the House approved in a rare Sunday evening session.
House members approved a $69.4 million budget for the Department of Public Safety that did not include money for new trooper vehicles.
Gov. Phil Bryant, when he announced the sale of the state jet for $2 million earlier this year, said he wanted to use the money to buy 78 new Highway Patrol vehicles.
The House and Senate did not agree.
