Phil Bryant signs abortion bill
Gov. Phil Bryant signed into law Monday a measure that aims to close the state’s only abortion clinic.
“This is a historic day to begin the process of ending abortion in Mississippi,” Bryant said after he signed the bill in his ceremonial office at the Capitol.
House Bill 1390, sponsored by Public Health and Human Services Chairman Sam Mims, R-McComb, requires abortion providers to be board-certified obstetrician gynecologists and to obtain admitting privileges at Mississippi hospitals. It goes into effect July 1.
