Harper – Democrats should produce budget

By: Magnolia Tribune - January 25, 2012

Dear Friend,

Today marks the 1,000th day since the Democratic-controlled Senate has produced a federal budget.

Federal government debt has exceeded $15 trillion and non-defense discretionary spending has jumped 84 percent under the current administration, which is responsible for the three largest deficits in American history. The Labor Department’s latest job figures revealed that unemployment has been above 8 percent for 35 consecutive months.

In an effort to curb government debt, House lawmakers passed a budget last year to reduce federal spending by $5.8 trillion over the next decade. This blueprint outlined a plan to pay off the national debt, balance the budget and reform entitlement programs.

To date, the House has advanced nearly 30 jobs bills that empower small business owners and get Americans back to work. These bills remain stalled in the Senate.

Taxpayers deserve economic certainty. Congress can regain public confidence by passing a budget and moving these pro-growth jobs bills.
