Pender on Senate committees – South Mississippi fares well

By: Magnolia Tribune - January 7, 2012

South Mississippi fares well

New Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves on Friday was being praised for evenhandedness and bipartisanship after he named his Senate committee chairs, vice chairs and members.
The group was a fairly even mix across party, geography, race and tenure lines.

Given the high turnover of the region’s delegation from the 2011 elections, South Mississippi fared pretty well as Senate positions of power were handed out for the next four years. The House leadership team is expected to be named by the end of next week.

Reeves reminded reporters after he named his leaders he had promised such parity during his campaign. He quoted former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
“I am an unabashed conservative, but I ain’t mad at anybody about it,” Reeves said.
