Ingalls Shipbuidling delivers San Diego transport dock to Navy
PASCAGOULA, Mississippi — Ingalls Shipbuilding delivered its latest amphibious transport dock to the U.S. Navy in a Monday afternoon ceremony aboard the San Diego.
The $1.3 billion LPD 22, the sixth in the LPD 17-class built by Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc.’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division, is scheduled for commissioning next spring and will be homeported in its namesake city, joining the USS New Orleans and USS Green Bay.
“It is a wonderful feeling taking delivery of this ship,” said Cmdr. Jon Haydel, the ship’s commanding officer. “It’s been a long time coming.”
