Gayle Wicker tells grads to be prepared for success, failure
Graduation? No sweat for University of Southern Miss senior Garrett Wright, 21, a construction major from Gulfport, who’s used to much heavier lifting. After all, he just built an outdoor classroom for students at Hawkins Elementary School.
“It’s a big step in my career path. I still have a long way to go, but it’s been a long, great four years,” said a confident Wright, who for his community service earned a $10,000 Pearson Prize.
Wright, who will start graduate school at Southern Miss in January in economic development, was one of 1,200 students to graduate Friday during one of the university’s two fall commencement ceremony at Reed Green Coliseum.
