Barbour – Don’t give up on getting jobs to the state
Landing a Toyota manufacturing plant is proof Mississippi is making strides in attracting high-skilled, high-paying manufacturing jobs, organizers of a work force training event said Thursday.
But they added the jobs of tomorrow will be even more skill-specific and require greater technological skills.
“Please don’t think we’re there,” Gov. Haley Barbour said during the Keep Mississippi Moving event at the Jackson Convention Complex. “We’ve got a long way to go. We’re going to need everyone’s hands on the wheel to get there.”
The conference sought ways to best prepare Mississippi’s K-12 and college students to enter an ever-shifting job market that demands high labor skill as much as a high-school diploma or college degree.
