Bryant, DuPree sticking to issues, avoiding attacks

The two have spent the past several months traveling countless miles across the state, building support and raising cash in each man’s bid to become Mississippi’s next governor.

The race between Phil Bryant and Johnny DuPree will be settled Tuesday when voters head to the polls.

For an election that will decide the state’s top executive, many have marveled that the campaigns have been noticeably civil. Both DuPree, a Democrat, and Bryant, a Republican, have appeared to do what each said he wanted to do – focus on the issues and their own record, not on each other.

“The governor’s race – both candidates – has really been conducted on a higher plane,” Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, who has no opponent in his re-election bid, said at a recent event.
