Education pays in very big ways
Businessman Jim Barksdale spoke of “big, hairy, bodacious ideas” during the Else School of Management Fall Forum at Millsaps College on Thursday.
In his keynote address, titled “Public Education … The Big Idea,” the former chief executive officer of Netscape and AT&T Wireless discussed his longtime passion before a group of about 50 faculty, students and professionals.
“I want to talk about education because, at least in my mind, it’s the core competence for just about anything else,” said Barksdale, a Jackson native and founder of the Barksdale Reading Institute at the University of Mississippi. “If you don’t have an education, it’s hard for you to compete.”
