Anderson sworn in as Mississippi Choctaws’ first female chief

She is following the swearing-in ceremony by taking part in an inauguration parade on Mississippi 16. The theme of the day’s events is “Our Moment in History.”

In last month’s election, Anderson got 56 percent of the vote, receiving 2,139 votes to 1,602 for outgoing chief Beasley Denson and 76 for Shirley Berg.

She had won an earlier runoff against Denson, but it was thrown out because of alleged voting irregularities in the 10-candidate primary.
