The Buzz – NRA honors sheriff; Barbour touts Bryant

NRA honors McMillin
Outgoing Hinds County Sheriff Malcolm McMillin was honored at a recent National Rifle Association banquet in Jackson.

When called to the stage to receive an award, McMillin, harkening his loss in the Democratic primary, quipped: “Is it a recount?”

The county went for several days without an official outcome in the race as additional ballots were counted. Some had speculated that there would be a recount.

Rapper promotes DuPree

Rapper B.o.B recently recorded a YouTube video stating his support for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Johnny DuPree.

The Grammy-nominated musician and songwriter – whose real name is Bobby Ray Simmons – refers to DuPree as his “homie” in the video.

“He already served three terms as the mayor of Hattiesburg, and now he’s running for governor of the entire state,” he says.

But Simmons mixes up his dates and urges voters to go to the polls on Nov. 2. The election is the following week on Nov. 8.

GOP govs. tout Bryant

Gov. Haley Barbour and Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnel will be the featured guests at a fundraiser for Republican gubernatorial candidate Phil Bryant later this month.

The event will be held Oct. 13 at the new art garden at the Mississippi Museum of Art in downtown Jackson.
