Harper on Protecting Jobs From Government Interference Act

By: Magnolia Tribune - September 16, 2011

Dear Friend,

The U.S. House of Representatives today passed the “Protecting Jobs From Government Interference Act” in response to a National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) regulation which aims to keep an aircraft assembly line in Washington as opposed to South Carolina, a right to work state.

On April 20, 2011, the NLRB issued a complaint against The Boeing Company’s plans to move its second 787 Dreamliner line to South Carolina following union strikes at their Washington facility. Boeing Chairman Jim McNerney called the ruling a “fundamental assault on the capitalist principles that have sustained America’s competitiveness since it became the world’s largest economy nearly 140 years ago.”

The bill, H.R. 2587, would take the common sense step of prohibiting the NLRB from restricting where an employer can create jobs in America. The NLRB regulation is one of ten that Majority Leader Eric Cantor has targeted for repeal votes as part of the House Republican’s regulatory relief agenda.

Congress must balance its responsibility to protect workers with the urgent need to enact pro-growth policies that encourage job creation in America. During a time when nearly one in ten Mississippians is out of work, lawmakers must reign in the excessive federal regulations that stifle job creation, hamper innovation and postpone investment in the economy.

God bless,

Gregg Harper
