MIM – Barbour pens endorsement
In what I believe is the only primary race in Mississippi this year that Haley Barbour has chosen sides, he recently penned a letter in support of Charles Barbour, his nephew and SD 25 candidate. Here is what the governor wrote:
Dear Republican Friend,
I am supporting Charles Barbour for State Senate, District 25, and urge you to give him your consideration next Tuesday in the Republican run-off. As you may know, Charles is my nephew, but I am supporting him because he will make an outstanding, conservative senator. Charles is a social and fiscal conservative. He had a terrific track record on the Hinds County Board of Supervisors in fighting for fiscal conservatism on that board – which was not easy. In the process Charles demonstrated he was not afraid to fight for conservative principles.
Charles has been a warrior for our Republican Party and its candidates his entire life. He has a long track record in race after race as a grassroots volunteer, who organizes door-to-door efforts and ballot security. I am proud of all the work he has done both as a Party volunteer and elected official.
Finally, Charles had a successful career in the Mississippi Army National Guard, serving our country for 27 years, including five years of active duty service. Charles retired a few years ago as a Lt. Colonel. At a time when few people his age made the unselfish decision to join the military, Charles was proud to serve. Charles worked for Governor Fordice at MDA as an economic developer and is a small business owner, as well.
As you know, the run-off is next Tuesday, August 23rd and I hope you agree Charles is far and away the better candidate in District 25.
Sincerely,
Governor Haley Barbour
