Mississippi Democratic Party fails to certify election

As of 4:00 pm today (Tuesday, August 16, 2011) the State Democratic Party has failed to certify their election results with the Secretary of State’s Office. Our Agency has been in constant contact with the State Democratic Party requesting the information necessary to complete the ballot for the State Primary Election Run-off. Pursuant to Miss. Ann Code Section 23-15-599 (1), the certification was due August 12, 2011.

Before the Statewide Election Management System can provide ballots to county Circuit Clerks for distribution to the voter, both the Democratic and Republican parties must certify their results.

The Republican Party filed its certification on August 15, 2011.

In accordance with State law, absentee balloting began Saturday, August 13, 2011. Absentee balloting is being addressed by the counties individually. Individuals are asked to contact their local circuit clerk on absentee balloting procedures.
