SH – DuPree vows not to sling mud

Here’s something a little unusual in this day and age: Democratic gubernatorial candidate Johnny DuPree says he’s going to run on his record and not badmouth other candidates.

“I don’t think it elevates anybody by getting down in the dirt with another candidate,” DuPree told the Associated Press last week. He said, “Voters get enough of that from Washington.”

DuPree said this as his opponent in the Aug. 23 runoff for the Democratic gubernatorial primary, Clarksdale entrepreneur and lawyer Bill Luckett, stepped up his criticism of GOP candidate Phil Bryant, calling him a career politician and vowing to “focus on keeping Phil Bryant out of this state Capitol.”
