Ole Miss aims to raise $150M for athletics
OXFORD — The economy is struggling, with even the federal government finding its credit rating less than perfect. But it’s been 49 years since the University of Mississippi won a national championship and, really, what is the bigger problem?
Ole Miss officials announced Tuesday a $150 million capital campaign that will help finance a new basketball arena and significantly enhance Vaught-Hemingway Stadium – in hopes of bringing Southeastern Conference and national title banners to Oxford.
“They say time and circumstance is the master of everything,” athletics director Pete Boone said. “I think a lot of the timing is the hunger our fans have to win, and to win a championship. So the timing is really good for that. There’s a lot of hunger out there.
