2nd Dem challenges Thompson in Miss. US House race
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Another Democrat is planning to challenge longtime U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson next year in Mississippi’s 2nd Congressional District — a formidable task, given Thompson’s substantial campaign fund and extensive political network.
Cobby (KO-bee) Mondale Williams of Canton said he wants to use his experience working for federal agencies and the District of Columbia to help his native Mississippi.
Williams, 35, grew up in Jackson and has worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the State Department and the District of Columbia Department of Transportation. He told The Associated Press on Friday that he wants to improve education, upgrade technology and help create jobs in one of the poorest parts in the United States.
