Clarion Ledger endorses Lynn Fitch for Treasurer
The office of treasurer is yet again one of those offices that could easily be streamlined into an efficient subcategory of state government, without being elective.
The post arose from the old days when a giant vault was kept in the Capitol and the state treasurer was required to count and keep track of the cash kept in it.
Needless to say, those days are gone. The treasurer now is a financial technician in charge of handling the details of Mississippi’s numerous finanical activities, including investment and management of state funds.
