Lt. governor foes continue to jab

PHILADELPHIA — In what has become the most combative race of the statewide election cycle, lieutenant governor candidates Billy Hewes and Tate Reeves continued to spar at the Neshoba County Fair on Wednesday.

During speeches on the fair’s historic Founders Square, the candidates’ usual talking points came up – lowering state debt, increasing jobs and using education as an economic development tool. The two Republicans also took time to clarify their own points during a rare debate.

But even in the genteel fair setting – where people sit on front porches for hours and sip sweet tea – neither Hewes nor Reeves could let go of the verbal jabs they have made at the other. Each spent about half of the 10 minutes he was given talking about the other guy or addressing accusations that have been made in the campaigns.
