Only real gaffe in tonight’s gubernatorial candidates debate — Bill Luckett

Overall, the historic gathering of all seven Republican and Democrat candidates for Governor at a single debate setting at the Mississippi College School of Law was an engaging, live television event. Hearty congratulations to MC School of Law Dean Jim Rosenblatt and WLBT TV3 in Jackson for the joint effort, which was a real service to the state’s voters.

As is almost always the case, no one really won the debate. And as is almost always the case, a very serious error was committed by one of the candidates.

Bill Luckett, a lawyer from Clarksdale who perfectly well knows better, made the utterly indefensible statement, twice, that our state had handled the job of redistricting legislative districts just fine ever since 1890 until this year, when things broke down.
