New election ordered for Choctaw chief
Three days after Phyliss Anderson was declared the first female chief for the Mississippi Band of Choctaws, the Tribal Council threw out the results.
Incumbent Beasley Denson, defeated by Anderson in official returns 1,971 to 1,618, urged the council to take action, claiming there were discrepancies in the election that hadn’t been addressed by the Election Commission.
The council voted to throw the results out.
Anderson campaign officials say they are reviewing the decision and considering their options.
