Campaign cash: Mounting figures
Campaign finance reports filed this week show a high level of fundraising for state offices, with Treasurer Tate Reeves running for lieutenant governor even out distancing Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant in his quest for governor.
Each has raised $2 million. While dwarfed by Gov. Haley Barbour’s $6.1 million war chest this time six years ago, it’s a hefty sum.
Unfortunately, this campaign season is likely to be a repeat of previous election cycles with wink-and-nudge skirting of the state’s campaign finance laws.
