Monday Morning Election Notebook
A couple notes on the 2011 elections…
** Longtime state Sen. Jack Gordon (D-Okolona) passed away on Saturday evening. Gordon first won election to the House in 1972 and has served in the Senate since 1980 (save for a couple years in the early ’90s). Gordon has been battling brain cancer for over a year, and was 66. He had been absent for several weeks in the recently completed legislative session because of the illness.
As for the political affects, Gordon was long considered an institution and leaves some big shoes to fill. Gordon had yet to qualify for his senate seat; and no one else had either as well. Under the Burton map, Gordon’s district would be combined with Sen. Lydia Chassanoil’s (R-Winona).
