Flowers votes against $422m bond bill
JACKSON – The Mississippi Senate approved a $422.9 million bond bill to help fund economic development projects and infrastructure upgrades for state agencies and colleges and universities.
Sen. Merle Flowers, R-Olive Branch, made a motion to postpone the bond bill vote by 24-hours to give senators more time to read and consider the 276 page bill.
“I asked that the bill be held because I got the bill at 3:30 in the afternoon and we started voting at 4:30,” Flowers said. “You need at least 24 hours to read a bill of that magnitude.”
Flowers’ motion was defeated and the bill passed 36-10 in the Senate and 91-27 in the House.
