Barbour says he doesn’t regret Goff decision

GULFPORT — Gov. Haley Barbour said Monday if he had it all over to do again, he still would shave off four months of jail time for Joseph Goff, a Gautier man convicted in the December 2001 shooting death of an aspiring Jackson County teen.

Goff was released from prison Friday after serving less than half of a 20-year sentence for manslaughter.

The governor said the majority of time shaved off Goff’s sentence was for other reasons, namely a one-year-and-55-day reduction for meritorious time earned through MDOC and another seven years and 15 days for trusty time he’d also earned while in MDOC custody.
