Barbour reading Israeli ambassador’s book

POLITICO’s Mike Allen reported Thursday in Playbook that the Mississippi governor is currently reading “Power, Faith, and Fantasy: America in the Middle East, 1776 to the Present.”

The 778-page tome was written in 2007 by Michael B. Oren, now the Israeli ambassador to the U.S. It chronicles the history of U.S. relations with the Middle East from when Thomas Jefferson sent the Marines after the Barbary pirates through the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Barbour, a longtime political operative and former lobbyist who lacks meaningful foreign policy experience, went to Israel last month for several days. He delivered an aggressively pro-Israel speech and called Iran the top threat to world peace and stability.
