Bill may alter rules for 16th Section land

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann says a bill moving through the Legislature that would strip his oversight on public school trust lands would cost millions in proceeds for K-12 education.

But supporters of the measure say decisions on leasing 16th Section land should rest with local authorities.

They ar-gue Hosemann’s approach has slowed the process, or in some cases, thwarted leases, costing school districts.
