Legislature takes on Department of Marine Resources legislation
ACKSON — House lawmakers this week have passed numerous bills requested by the Department of Marine Resources, including one that would protect rivers and estuaries from commercial fishing and another that would require at least five people to complain before a public hearing would be held when a project is filling in wetlands.
The bills passed the House unanimously and generated little debate, but some good-natured joking between the Coast lawmakers speaking for the bills and their inland colleagues.
“What’s the difference between a saltwater minnow and a freshwater minnow?” Rep. Steve Holland, D-Plantersville, asked Rep. Jeffrey Guice, R-Ocean Springs.
