Mississippi lawmakers to start session with economic development bill
Legislators will start the 2011 session much the way they did last year: pushing through an economic development deal.
“We’ll be taking up an economic development House bill that will be coming from the House,” said Senate Finance Committee Chairman Dean Kirby.
Legislators say they hope to pass the bill on Tuesday, the first day of the session. The bill is expected to originate with House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Percy Watson, D-Hattiesburg, for a project in his hometown. Watson was not immediately available for comment.
The governor is expected to announce the undisclosed development Tuesday morning.
