Mississippi will remain with four Congressional seats, Census numbers shows
WASHINGTON — In what Commerce Secretary Gary Locke declared to be the “this latest portrait of America” in an announcement this morning, the U.S. Census 2010 determined that there are 308 million people in the country but the apportionment of seats for the U.S. House of Representatives leaves Mississippi with four seats.
While Southern states grew exponentially – Texas had a 20.6 percent increase over 2000 and gains four more U.S. House seats — Mississippi did not have enough growth to add any more representation in the House.
