Mississippi’s recommended budget of $5.4B includes cuts in travel, equipment
JACKSON — The State Legislature’s top budget-writers recommended a $5.42 billion spending plan Monday for the 2012 fiscal year — a 1.1 percent drop from 2011 levels — that will be presented for the full House and Senate to consider when lawmakers kick off their legislative session Jan. 4.
Most of the recommended spending reductions, about $64 million, occurred in travel, equipment and unfilled state jobs, Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant said.
The legislative budget recommendation is about $50.7 million below the executive budget recommendation outlined last month by Gov. Haley Barbour.
