Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney sat at his desk with an e-mail pulled up on his computer screen. It was from a 57-year-old mother who recently lost her job.
Her husband was on her insurance, and she said the couple could not afford COBRA. She makes too much for Medicaid and is not old enough for Medicare.
The nation’s new federal health care law is meant to address common predicaments such as this one.
