STATEMENT OF GOV. BARBOUR ON
PRELIMINARY NOVEMBER REVENUES
“As of today, the state’s preliminary November revenue collections barely met our conservative estimate for the fiscal year. Mississippi collected just 0.19 percent, or $609,339 above our expectations for the month. The good news is we made the estimate this month. But clearly, our economic recovery will be slow. As we prepare to draft a FY 2012 budget, we need to keep the long-term economic health of our state in mind. I don’t expect revenues to rebound for several years. A slow recovery, coupled with the loss of hundreds of millions of federal stimulus dollars, means we must make tough decisions to ensure our priority services continue to operate effectively.”
