Special election set Jan. 11 to replace Nunnelee, Palazzo, Minor
Gov. Haley Barbour has set a Jan. 11 special election to fill three vacancies – two in the Legislature and one on the transportation commission.
U.S. Reps.-elect Steven Palazzo and Alan Nunnelee are headed to Congress, and Northern District Transportation Commissioner Bill Minor died earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant is expected to appoint several senators to leadership roles today.
Nunnelee and Palazzo, both Republicans, unseated Democratic incumbent congressmen Travis Childers in the 1st District and Gene Taylor in the 4th District. Both residgned from the Legislature effective Monday.
