Miss. youth prison must defend against Southern Poverty Law Center suit
LEAKE COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) – The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating the Walnut Grove Youth Correctional Facility in Leake County.
A letter was sent to Gov. Haley Barbour last month.
Tuesday a news conference was held outlining allegations of brutal conditions in the youth prison.
The Southern Poverty Law Center has filed a federal lawsuit over conditions at a juvenile prison.
They say some young offenders housed at the Walnut Grove facility have suffered abuses at the hands of guards, improper sexual relations and denied medical care.
