MS Senator Merle Flowers hosts meeting in Jackson looking for ways for govt to save money

By: Magnolia Tribune - November 17, 2010

Legislative panel to seek cost savings in technology

A panel chaired by Flowers, the Select Efficiencies in Government Committee, will hold the first of three meetings in Jackson today to begin looking at ways the state could save money on technology-related costs.

“We will be turning over every stone, looking for every dollar, dime and cent we can find in state government that needs reallocation,” Flowers said. “There are plenty of opportunities for savings in the information technology field that various state agencies need to embrace for consolidation, outsourcing and streamlining.”

Flowers, a Republican, said he thinks the Nov. 2 election results made it clear that the public demands more accountability on financial matters, and the committee he was asked to chair by Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant is one way of being more accountable.
