Barbour recommends 8 percent cuts for agencies
Rep. Harvey Fillingane agrees with Gov. Haley Barbour’s assessment that formulating the 2012 state budget will be rife with “difficult” decisions, including cuts to state agencies and departments.
But at this point, just how deep and how widespread those cuts will be are going to be at the center of the debate this winter.
“We know the funds are not coming in because people are lacking jobs, and we know that we are looking at having to make cuts,” said Fillingane, R-Sumrall. “Now, how much we’ll have to cut, I can’t tell you that right now, and I don’t think the governor can, either.”
