Legislative Joint Study Committee on Minority Business Participation in Public Contracts, Professional Services and Public Works will meet today, Friday, November 11, in room 216 of the Capitol

The Legislative Joint Study Committee on Minority Business Participation in Public Contracts, Professional Services and Public Works in Mississippi will continue its hearing at 9 A.M. today, Friday, November 12, 2010, in Room 216 of the Capitol. The committee’s objective is to assess supplier diversity activity within state government.

Among those expected to be present before the committee are representatives of state agencies, business advocacy groups and large corporations, said Senator John Horhn, committee Co-Chairman and Chairman of the Senate Labor Committee.

Co-chairman Rep. Bobby Moak, who also chairs the House Committee on Gaming, said the meeting will “discern what level of minority- and women-owned business participation is currently taking place within the state. Added Horhn, “we want to explore ways to improve state-operated supplier diversity programs, including possible legislation in the 2011 Session.”

“Ultimately, this is about economic development and how we can grow the pie larger in a way that helps all businesses, especially small enterprises” Senator Horhn said.
