Rogers denies wrongdoing in recruiting allegations, says he met Mullen once

STARKVILLE — The man who has been implicated by multiple reports as the former Mississippi State player who attempted to solicit money in exchange for Cam Newton‘s commitment to MSU denied any wrongdoing in a radio interview on an ESPN Radio affiliate in Dallas on Friday.

ESPN.com cited unidentified sources Thursday that said Kenny Rogers, a former MSU player in the 1980s, indicated to former MSU quarterback John Bond that it would require $180,000 for Newton to sign with the Bulldogs.
“Heck no,” Rogers said Friday night. “I’ve never done that. A school has never paid me for a kid, an alumni has never paid me for a kid. Period. Point blank.”
