Southern recruits have tough choices ahead
Up until recently in California, it was virtually the same situation with USC. When Pete Carroll wanted a player, he’d offer a scholarship and sometimes get a commitment from that recruit as early as during the kid’s junior season. Ohio State has had comparable success in its area of the country too, especially in state.
But in the South, where SEC teams have won four straight national titles and look like they could be in the mix for another one this year, schools take nothing for granted. Unlike Texas, the Alabamas, LSUs and Floridas of the world don’t have 20 commitments a full year before national signing day. In fact, a lot of times they don’t have 20 commitments a month before signing day.
The same parity on the field takes place in recruiting.
