Hosemann: Election Day interest, turnout high

It has been reported that in Rankin County, due to a technical error, the Congressional candidates’ party affiliations do not appear on the voting screen. The party affiliations are printed on the official sample ballot provided to each county by the Secretary of State’s office. Mississippi Code Ann. Section 23-15-367 requires the county election commission to follow the sample ballot “as nearly as practicable.”

The Mississippi Code states, “It is the duty of the Secretary of State, with the approval of the Governor, to furnish the designated commissioner of each county a sample of the official ballot, not less than fifty-five (55) days prior to the election, the general form of which shall be followed as nearly as practicable.”

Some observers have reported they do not see the list of absentee voters posted in their precincts. If voters do not see such a list at their precinct, they should request the absentee list be posted and contact the Secretary of State’s office.

To reach the Secretary of State’s office with any elections questions, call the Elections Hotline at 1-800-829-6786. Individuals may also text the word “vote” to 57711, and they will receive an immediate response giving them the Elections Hotline number.
