Are you serious? Former Republican hopeful Joe Tegerdine endorses Gene Taylor

By: Magnolia Tribune - October 27, 2010

Dear Friends,
After much thought and deliberation, I have decided to vote for Congressman Gene Taylor in the upcoming election. I believe Gene Taylor is the best candidate in this race and will continue to hold Mississippi’s 4th District’s seat with honor and integrity. Over a career that has spanned two decades, Taylor has not enriched himself at the expense of the U.S. taxpayer, nor has he been mired in the scandals that are so prevalent among our elected officials. It is this type of leadership that we can trust to help lead America in these challenging times. I hope those of you who supported me in the Republican primary race and those who are still undecided will please join me in voting for Gene Taylor on November 2nd.
As a legitimately endorsed Tea Party candidate and solid Republican voter my entire life, many of you may be surprised at my decision to vote for Gene. I did not make this decision because I agree with all of his positions on the issues. I made this decision based on his record of integrity and willingness to be forthright with the people in our district. As a candidate, I pointed out any weakness I could find in his professional record, but there has never been any confirmed information or allegations of misconduct throughout his career that would lead me to believe he cannot be trusted. I believe the first step in restoring America’s greatness is making sure we have leaders in offices at all levels who exemplify strong character and integrity. I believe Gene Taylor has shown us that he is willing to live up to this standard.
Originally, I did not intend to publicly discuss who I would vote for, but felt compelled to do so after having so many people ask for my opinion. From the outset, I decided I would not support a third party candidate. I still do not think the timing is right for a third party and even if it was, the candidate would have to be the kind of leader that could motivate and mobilize a large base of supporters to have a chance to win. This has not happened in this election. I also considered voting for and endorsing Steven Palazzo. After much thought and deliberation I decided I could not in good conscience support him or the Republican establishment who worked to get him elected. I am confident that Nancy Pelosi will not return as Speaker of the House regardless of who wins in our district and do not want to put our 4th District seat in the hands of a Republican puppet and puppeteers that I do not trust.
Dutifully Yours,
Joe Tegerdine
