Harris Poll a hodgepodge of college personalties

Some of the names in this season’s panel are easily identifiable to fans. Gino Torretta and Pete Dawkins are former Heisman winners. Tommie Frazier was a national championship quarterback at Nebraska. Roy Kramer is the former commissioner of the SEC. Prominent former coaches in the poll include Rich Brooks (Oregon and Kentucky ), Joe Novak (Northern Illinois), Sonny Lubick (Colorado State), Herb Deromedi (Central Michigan), Joe Tiller (Wyoming and Purdue) and Jackie Sherrill (Washington State, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M and Michigan State).

But other names on the list may be a mystery, including a handful of former sports information directors and nondescript former players. The panel includes the executive vice president of the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) (former Minnesota athletic director Mark Dienhart), the executive director of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (Michael Cleary), the Green Bay Packers’ director of college scouting (John Dorsey) and the former Big 12 supervisor of officials (Tim Millis).
