Rich Brooks opened the door to No. 1

Oregon is ranked No. 1. Wow!

As someone who has lived in the state since the bad ol’ days, it’s almost hard to believe.

Take a bow, Rich Brooks.

He’s the coach who led the Ducks out of the wilderness – they went 26 years without a bowl appearance, from 1963 to 1989 – and opened the door for Mike Bellotti and Chip Kelly to walk through.

Phil Knight provided the resources for Oregon to expand Autzen Stadium and help make the facilities and amenities among the best in the nation.

Now all the Ducks have to do is run the table against their final Pac-10 opponents and write themselves a ticket to the BCS Championship Game Jan. 10 in Glendale, Ariz.
